Cecilia was born on the central coast of California in an area of agriculture, mountains, lakes and ocean. The colors of the rolling hills near Santa Barbara, the misty fog near Pismo Beach and the setting sun on her environment was filled with energy and constant change. She had a talent for art at a very young age and was encouraged by her father to create with a passion. In 1975 she moved to Oahu, Hawaii with her father where she was influenced by the various cultures of Hawaii. Her young artistic obsession was nurtured in school and by artistic people she met around the island. She attended the Foss School of Fine Art in Honolulu where she mastered color theory, figure drawing and oil painting. In 1986 she moved to the island of Maui to raise her young family.
On Maui, Cecilia was introduced to renaissance painting and she began her journey into portrait art for years. Seeking a different form of expression she joined a casual plein air painting group and created her first palette knife painting which was entered into Art Maui and sold to an affluent art collector. Cecilia was hooked on plein air painting and ventured out each week to capture the beauty of the island on canvas. Eventually, her expertise in painting led her to teaching and her classes were filled with students eager to lean.
Her years of instruction to hundreds of children through the at-risk youth art program on Maui helped her to see the innocence in art and how art can heal some of society’s problems. In 2006, she worked with terminally ill patients in a California hospital as the activities director and used art as a means of expression and communication. Her work with youth and the terminally ill was very fulfilling for her.
Currently, Cecilia paints en plein air creating small to medium sized paintings and larger works in her studio. Subjects include landscapes, still life and figures in the environment. Her technique involves soft edges that melt into one another, brush strokes that demand attention, colors that pop and intriguing composition.
Cecilia has exhibited her painting extensively and is included in many private art collections in the United States. She is a member of the Plein Air Painters of Hawaii (PAPOH), The Chestnut Group (Plein Air Painters for The Land), American Impressionist Society and the National Collage Society. She is the owner of Aloha Maui Creations a graphic arts business.
